B:SM (Barcelona Serveis Municipals) has taken charge of the project, during which a team of restorers has removed the original trencadís glass covering of the medallions, and has divided them into 24 pieces. There has been structural, cleaning and adaptation works that have allowed the discovery of the very different materials that Jujol used to create them: wineglasses feet, bottle caps or perfume bottles are some examples.
Once the works have been finished, made with materials previously tested by the Materials Laboratory of the Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya, these fragments have been placed back in the exact location they were taken from. This way, they have recovered the different lights and shadows that can be seen in the Hypostyle Room depending on the time of day created by the glass covering of the medallions.
This project is one of several maintenance and improvement works that Barcelona Serveis Municipals, commissioned by Barcelona City Council, is doing in Park Güell as well as its surrounding areas.
